    Itinerary of the trip

    Day 1Arrival - Antigua Guatemala

    Meet and greet at La Aurora International Airport and transfer to the City of Antigua Guatemala, (1 hour).

    Lodging in Antigua Guatemala.

    Day 2El Pilar Farm – Antigua Guatemala

    Morning bird watching at Finca El Pilar based 10 minutes from Antigua. Coffee, Pinus, and oaks mostly consist of the plant life within this reserve, settle in an altitudinal range between 1,710 to 9,500 ft. Above sea level.

    One of the significant points of interest in El Pilar farm is around hummingbird’s feeders where it is possible to find numerous hummingbird’s species that reside the area feeding oneself together addressing a fantastic chance for birdwatchers.

    14:00 hrs, you are going to start the exciting cultural excursion of Antigua discovering beautiful churches, ruins, galleries, and museums that joined with aged stoned paths keep the stories and tales of the colonial times that unquestionably please you.

    Day 3Antigua Guatemala – Tecpan – Lake Atitlan

    6:00 am. Take a trip from Antigua Guatemala towards Tecpan Birding spot

    Breakfast in Tecpan

    Bird watching trip in Tecpan Reserve where you will discover exotic endemic species of the Northern Central American highlands like Pink-headed Warbler, Blue-throated Motmot, and Rufous-browed Wren.

    During migratory (wintertime) time you will find Townsend’s, Wilson’s, Black-and-White, and Red-faced Warblers and also the resident Slate-throated Redstart, Pink-headed, Crescent-chested, and Olive Warblers, and also Hutton’s Vireo.

    Midday transportation to Lake Atitlan

    Day 4Lake Atitlan – San Pedro Volcano

    Morning boat trip in the direction of San Pedro La Laguna where we get a pickup truck that will carry you towards the entry of Paquisis volcano.

    Here we will begin our hike for the search of Horned Guan and also other exciting species like Prevost’s Ground-sparrow, Amethyst-throated Hummingbird, Slender Sheartail, Rufous Sabrewing Violet Sabrewing, Bushy-crested Jay, Olive-sided Towhee, Chesnut-sided Shrike-vireo, Rufous-browed Peppershrike, Mountain Trogon, Bar-winged Oriole and Ocellated Quail among others.

    Food may be provided in route (boxed breakfast).

    Get back to the lodge for lunch, afternoon birding boat trip in Lake Atitlan

    Day 5Lake Atitlan – Quetzaltenango

    Morning transfer to Fuentes Georginas, to birding excursion in the quest of exotic such as the Horned Guan, Guatemalan Pygmy Owl, Pink Headed Warbler, Black Capped siskin, Black Throated jay, Amethyst Throated and Gartner Throated Hummingbirds, among others.

    Return to the lodge for resting.

     

    Day 6Fuentes Georginas – Los Tarrales

    Time for coffee and ready to visit Fuentes Georginas for a birding tour, with a high possibility to spot Horned Guan, Fulvous Owl, Mexican Whip – Poor – Will, and Unicolored Jay, among others.

    Return to the lodge for breakfast and check out

    Transfer to Los Tarrales.

    Check in at our arrival and time for lunch, after a short break; we will be ready for a birding experience around the lodge.

    Day 7Los Tarrales

    Time for coffee and transport La Isla birding spot in search of Azure-rumped Tanager, Rufous Sabrewing, Emerald-chinned Hummingbird, Tody Motmot, Quails and doves among other species of the highlands. Morning meal at the location (boxed breakfast).

    Return to the lodge for Lunch and resting.

    Evening birding tour through San Pedro Trail, this location provides exceptional chance to find out species like White-bellied Chachalaca, Yellow-naped Parrot, and Rufous-breasted Spinetail among others.

    Day 8Los Tarrales – Biotopo del Quetzal

    Check out and transfers towards the Biotopo del Quetzal.

    Day 9Biotopo del Quetzal – Guatemala City

    Morning birding.

    Afternoon transfer to Guatemala City

    Some of the birds that you can spot at this destination are:

    Resplendent Quetzal, Highland Guan, Unicolored Jay, White-faced Quail-Dove, Scaly-throated Foliage-Gleaner, Northern Emerald-Toucanet, Blue-crowned Chlorophonia, among others.
