After meeting your guide, you’ll transfer to the charming colonial city of Antigua, Guatemala, just one hour away. Known for its well-preserved architecture and scenic views of surrounding volcanoes, Antigua is the perfect introduction to your Guatemalan journey. Check-in at a family-friendly hotel and relax before embarking on the adventures ahead.
Kick off your Guatemala Family Adventure with a morning nature hike in El Pilar Reserve, just outside Antigua. Walk through an old coffee plantation and spotting local birds and butterflies along wooden stairways in the pine-oak forest. This hike offers kids and adults the perfect balance of fun and learning.
Afterward, you’ll head to the famous Choco Museo in Antigua, where your family will learn to make chocolate from scratch. This hands-on activity is educational and enjoyable for all ages, and everyone gets to keep their handmade chocolate as a sweet souvenir. Day 3 of the Guatemala Family Adventure begins with breakfast before heading to Pacaya, one of Guatemala’s three active volcanoes. Located about an hour from Antigua, Pacaya offers an exciting hiking experience suitable for the whole family. During the hike, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views and can even hire a horse for younger children who may need a rest. Once you reach Cerro del Chino, you’ll have a great vantage point to view the volcano’s peak before returning to Antigua.
On Day 4 of the Guatemala Family Adventure, you’ll travel to Chichicastenango, home to one of Central America’s most famous indigenous markets. Start Day 6 of the Guatemala Family Adventure with an optional kayaking activity on Lake Atitlan or a visit to a local butterfly farm. After enjoying the lake’s natural beauty, you’ll transfer to La Aurora International Airport for a short flight to Flores, Peten. Upon arrival, your family will be welcomed by your guide and transferred to Tikal National Park, one of the most significant archaeological sites in the Maya world.
Day 7 is a highlight of the Guatemala Family Adventure. Spend the day exploring Tikal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the rainforest. Your guided tour will take you through Tikal’s ancient plazas and towering temples, including Temple I and Temple IV, which offer panoramic views of the jungle.
